First, I swear to a Mennonite God that every word of this is true. You cannot make this shit up. I was throwing a birthday party for Kate’s 40th birthday party and was amazed to find myself so prepared that I had a blissful 30 minutes all to myself before packing the cooler and dashing out the door. This is super rare, as I’m the last second girl, frantically tossing stuff and running, … [Read more...]
I am THE WEEBLE
** Sorry about yelling. I’m also sorry about the metaphors in here. They are exhausting. You might need a nap before reading this. Despondent. It’s not a happy word. I’ve been there; I’ve lived it. My ex of 16 years ditched me for another, a “dear and close friend.” This was a few years back. I suppose everyone has been through this in one way or the other. Spirits with Dinner?
When mom said she booked us a dinner at The Joshy for 5:30, I reacted with a Pavlovian drool-fest. Joshua Wilton house is an architectural gem and also a fancy pants restaurant in Virginia, near The Parental Pad. I love the sea scallops in a butt'ry drizzle over some scallion laced cheese grits. Curiosity fueled traffic jams--I mean WTF? I avert my eyes because I don't want to see hurt, blood, or mangled cars. Holiday dreams dashed … [Read more...]
Sometimes Halfway Home Ain’t Bad
Getting from Point A to Point B isn't usually a big deal. And usually the good folk at the weather desk have a clue as to what's up. Not this time. This time, they were clearly hitting the wacky weed. When we left my parent's house, the weather outside was indeed frightful. It was sleeting and snowing but my Dad assured us that it would be warming and that we were clear to drive. Because the … [Read more...]
Holy Faux Pas
Holy Faux Pas Through thick pea soup fog we rode to the little stone 1914 Episcopal church for Christmas service. Walker and I are not big church goers and I'm new to "Catholic lite." I clearly needed a cheat sheet to navigate these dangerous waters of coordinated religion. Just a bulleted list of differences and I needed practice to coordinate various reference materials. Some instances … [Read more...]
